Atom Bank has made former Black Eyed Peas rapper and The Voice judge will.i.am a strategic board advisor.

The technology-focused bank has charged will.i.am with providing an "external perspective on culture, philanthropy and technology”.

In February Sky News reported that will.i.am will join as a consultant and board adviser with the option of acquiring up to 3.55 million shares at £1.15-per-share during a three-year period.

will.i.am said: "Our lives are faster than ever before, but the banking industry hasn’t kept up.

“The scale of Atom’s ambition to help people understand and manage their money better, and it’s clever use of technology to give people an entire bank on their phones is awesome."

The rapper has invested in tech in the past, as he put money into an app called Knock Knock and launched his own line of headphones.
