A Barclays executive who spat at a bus driver for cutting him up while driving has been fined a week’s wages, Court News UK reports.
The £90,000 a year financier Alexis Fountzoulas was driving in Piccadilly Circus last June when bus driver Leon Delahaye pulled in front of him.
Upon reaching the traffic lights, Fountzoulas ran up to the bus forcing the cab window open and spat on the drivers left arm.
The Barclays worker was shouting before getting back into his car.
Fountzoulas was initially charged with one count of assault by beating and one of racially aggravated assault, but the latter was dropped by the CPS after a review of the CCTV footage.
The banker denied both counts and was due to stand trial but changed his plea to guilty as it was about to get underway.
Judge Jonathan Hall QC ordered the banker to pay the victim £500 compensation.
Dominic Thomas, who defended the case, said Fountzoulas is a man of “good character and wishes to apologise to Mr Delahaye.”
Southwark Crown Court heard how the banker’s father-in-law died in an accident involving a lorry in November 2015, the court heard.
Judge Jonathan Hall QC summed up the case by saying “I accept a death in the immediate family has had an impact in how you have reacted to the incident but that doesn’t excuse it.”
Barclays declined to comment.
