The 2008 Nationwide Building Society 5-a-side Football Tournament

The John Givens Cup

The trophy is named in honour of former business and personal finance journalist, John Givens, Nationwide Building Society's campaigns manager who died in March 2007.

John was a great supporter of the charity organisation SightSavers and in memory of John we respectfully request that all teams make a donation of a minimum of £70 to SightSavers

Time: 5:30pm onwards

Date: Friday 17th October 2008

Venue: PowerLeague 5-aside centre, Worship Street, London (2 min walk from London Liverpool Street, 5 min walk from Old Street)

Playing details:

* 16 teams made up of seven squad members will make up four groups for the first round (draw for the group stages to be drawn live over the internet)

* The top two teams from each group will compete in John Givens Trophy knockout tournament whilst the remaining teams will be entered into the plate tournament

* All teams will play a minimum of four games. Each game is 12 minutes in length

* Team shirts, shorts and socks will be provided for all players by Nationwide Building Society*

* Two energising sports drinks will be given to each player

* A football will be provided for each team to take home

* PowerLeague membership will be given free to all teams

* A free bar and staggered buffet for all, once the first round is concluded so all participants get enough to eat & drink!

Spectator details:

* For those who don’t know their Arsenal from their elbow – spectators, supporters and groupies are welcome to shout loudly in support of their chosen team.

*Shin pads, trainers, and goalkeeping gloves will need to be provided by each team
