Mortgage approvals up
The number of mortgage approvals for house purchase has reached the same level as 2007, according to the latest figures from the British Bankers’ Association (BBA).
There were 44,713 mortgages approved in November, up 2,161 on the previous month. In addition to this, net mortgage lending rose to £3.3 billion in November - its highest level since February 2009. The figures also show there were 22,360 remortgaging deals approved, down 25% on a year ago and 63% lower than two years ago. Also, the withdrawal of equity from homes was about half the level of 2007.
