Conservatives to form government with Democratic Union Party’s backing

Despite her disastrous night it’s widely reported that Theresa May’s Conservatives will look to form a government with the backing of Northern Ireland’s Democratic Unionist Party.

Despite calls for her to stand down from Labour she is expected to visit Buckingham Palace at 12:30pm to seek permission to form a government.

The Conservatives gained 318 and the Democratic Unionists 10 – which combined would make up the 326 required.

Democratic Unionist Party, or DUP, is the largest unionist party in the UK.
