Mr Bean is new deputy

9 June, 2008

The Sunday Times has reported that the Bank of England is all set to name Charles Bean as its deputy governor.

Bean, who is currently the Bank’s chief economist, will replace Rachel Lomax when her term ends on June 30, according to the report.

The move comes after the Treasury said it wanted to set up a committee to advise the Bank on financial stability – widely seen as a criticism of the way the Bank has handled the current credit crunch.
