London is the most unaffordable city in the UK to buy a house and live, Compare The Market has found.

The capital has a house price to income ratio of 15.34.

This was followed by Oxford (15.20) and Brighton and Hove (14.95).

However, Stoke-on-Trent in the West Midlands is where house prices are the lowest compared to salaries where house prices average at £109,894 and median salaries at £22,399.

This was followed by Dundee in Scotland and Sunderland in the North East.

The North/South divide is evident when looking at house price to income ratio, with the ratio being 6.72 in the North and 12.38 in the South.
