The workshop, which is being held at the offices of Conveyancing Association member Shulmans, intends to drive up standards across the industry.

It will feature two sessions, with the first focusing on money laundering and the second on technical issues around fracking, consumer contract regulations and architect’s certificates.

Victoria Mortimer, member of the CA Management Committee and partner at Shulmans, said: “The CA’s workshops are designed to provide an opportunity for our members to share knowledge and consult industry specialists on the latest developments.

“We have been running them for a year now and they have proved hugely successful in ensuring that our members are up to date and on top of all the most current issues facing us as conveyancers.”

Rowlinsons Solicitors consultant solicitor Paul Butt will be chairing the fracking session, while the money laundering session will be covered by Bill Jones, managing partner of JMW Solicitors and managing director of ML Solutions 4U.

Jones said: “Money laundering is very much in the news at the moment, particularly with the recent announcement that the Solicitors Regulation Authority has just started a nine month audit campaign of law firms in order to ensure that they are complying with their regulatory and statutory obligations.

“Now is the time for law firms and licensed conveyancers to review their internal systems and the way they train their staff.

“The Serious Crime Bill is also likely to come into effect early next year and this is aimed at professionals who might (even unwittingly) assist the activity of organised crime groups. The implication of this act cannot be under estimated.”

Butt added: “This regional meeting will once again show the importance placed by the Conveyancing Association and its member firms on keeping up to date with changes in law and practice.

“This time I will be looking at several topics of importance to firms and their clients including fracking and architect’s certificates.”
