Earl Shilton Building Society achieves Fair Tax Mark

Leicestershire-based Earl Shilton Building Society (esbs) has achieved the Fair Tax Mark for the second year running, in recognition of the business’ continued transparency around its tax affairs.

First launched in 2014, the Fair Tax Mark certification scheme aims to encourage and recognise organisations that are committed to paying the correct amount of corporation tax in a timely manner, and is the only initiative of its kind present in the UK. Esbs first won the Fair Tax Mark in 2018.

Paul Monaghan, chief executive of Fair Tax Mark, said: “We are pleased to announce the recertification of esbs.

“At a time when the public is growing used to headlines about big corporates shifting profits to tax havens and minimising the contributions they make to the public purse, it’s refreshing to see a business that is proud to say what they pay.”

Neil Adams, deputy chief executive and finance director of esbs, added: “We are delighted to have been awarded the Fair Tax Mark accreditation for a second consecutive year.

“We have always been an organisation that takes pride in our commitment to paying our fair share of tax and regard taxation as a vital means of distributing wealth to the wider community and society in general.

“Being certified with a Fair Tax Mark demonstrates that we pay the right amount of corporation tax and are open in discussing our tax affairs with consumers.”

The society’s transparency, comprehensive publication of its public tax policy, and the inclusion of current and deferred tax disclosures in its accountswerecited as key areas of excellence.

The renewal of its accreditation puts esbs among 50 organisations from across the country, including big name brands like The Co-op, Timpson, Richer Sounds and Lush Cosmetics.
