Specialist health and protection insurer The Exeter has appointed Chris Pollard as its chief operating officer, starting in March subject to final regulatory approval.

He will take a place on both the full and executive boards at The Exeter, assuming responsibility for operations, underwriting and claims.

Andy Chapman, chief executive, The Exeter, said: “Chris joins The Exeter at a really exciting time for the business and I look forward to welcoming him to our team.

“Chris has a wealth of experience within the protection industry and will play a pivotal role in helping the senior team further shape and grow the company.”

As a consultant, Pollard’s clients have included EY, LV= and Prudential in recent years. Prior to this he worked as chief underwriter at Bupa and head of underwriting, claims and operations at Friends Life, now part of Aviva.

In his most recent role he was responsible for a multi-site operation, encompassing claims and underwriting policies.

Pollard added: “I’m delighted to be joining a company as diverse as The Exeter. I firmly believe The Exeter is at the forefront of the industry in ensuring those that need protection can have access to it.

“I am looking forward to working with the team to help continue their hard work, delivering consistent improvements for the industry, advisers and members.”
