The Exeter launches Real Life range to whole market

The Exeter has launched its Real Life range across the whole market, which is life cover for those with complex medical histories and disclosures.

The range was first launched through a limited number of networks and intermediaries in late 2017.

Tom Horton, managing director of impaired life broker The Insurance Surgery, said: “This provides our clients and our adviser introducers access to valuable protection that they may not have previously been able to access.

“Our aim is to protect more people and we expect to increase our client reach by 20% next year due to The Exeter entering this market.”

The Real Life range has a product called 'Managed Life', which insurers people with type 2 diabetes and a high BMI at discounted premiums if they are seen to be managing their condition with a diet plan or weight loss goals for example.

At the same time as the launch The Exeter published a report called 'An Unhealthy Situation' about underinsurance among people with health conditions that often increase their need for adequate financial protection.

It found that two thirds (65%) of people with cancer or heart disease have no protection in place.

Steve Bryan (pictured), director of distribution & marketing at The Exeter said: “With an ageing population and the diagnosis of conditions like diabetes and cancer on the rise, it is worrying to see this research lay bare the scale of what we know is a growing problem.

“One in two of us will get cancer in our lifetime, whilst there are currently seven million people in the UK suffering from a heart disease, two conditions which are likely to make protection much more difficult for people to access.”
