Grant Shapps latest ex-Housing Minister in Johnson cabinet

Grant Shapps has become the latest former Housing Minster to join Boris Johnson's cabinet.

Johnson has now appointed him as Transport Secretary.

Back in May 2010 Shapps was appointed as Housing and Local Government Minister within the Communities and Local Government department.

It was Shapps who repealed Home Information Pack (HIP) legislation and promoted plans for flexible rent and ended automatic lifetime social tenancies.

He also introduced the New Homes Bonus which rewarded councils for building more homes.

Shapps replaces Chris Grayling.
