Hanley Economic celebrates national workplace award

Hanley Economic Building Society has been recognised as one of the UK’s Best Small Companies to work for in 2021.

The Society gained a 3-star accreditation, after demonstrating “world-class” levels of engagement for the third year in a row at the Sunday Times awards.

The leadership team has taken various steps to reimagine its approach to workplace engagement throughout the pandemic. They have assessed and actioned further ways to expand the support for mental health issues and introduced weekly Society-wide meetings to keep colleagues fully up to date and offer the platform to air any ideas and/or concerns.

Mark Selby, CEO at Hanley Economic Building Society, said:“Nurturing and sustaining a great place to work is hugely important to us.

"The whole team is thrilled to have again been awarded 3-star accreditation, showing our world-class levels of engagement with our team.”

“We all believe that being a great place to work only makes us more successful as a business.

"For the Board, it is very important for us to create an environment where people feel valued and supported. We recognise that this makes us both more attractive as an employer and underpins our continued commercial success.”

Deborah Henry, head of HR at Hanley Economic Building Society, added: “The last year has been challenging for us all so I’m extremely pleased to see that we have been able to go the extra mile to ensure our colleagues feel engaged, even with many of them working remotely and others on the front line in our branches.

"We are excited to develop our workplace and hope to continue our success for many years to come.
