Labour: Rent to Buy is a ‘piecemeal’ measure

She instead called for communities to have more power to build locally.

Reynolds said: “With house building under David Cameron at the lowest level of any government in peacetime since the 1920s, yet another piecemeal measure will fail to get Britain building the homes our nation needs.

“Labour has plans to double the number of first-time buyers and meet housing need for the first time in half a century.

“We need a step-change in the number and quality of houses built so that people of all ages and backgrounds can have a place to call a home.

“That means tackling the undersupply and banking of land, opening up the market to get more builders building and giving communities more power to make sure the homes they need locally are built where they want them.”
