Nuvo rebrands to Mojo Mortgages after Countrywide tussle

Online mortgage broker Nuvo has rebranded to Mojo Mortgages – not to be confused with Countrywide’s planned broker of the same name.

Countrywide planned to use the name but was beaten to the punch when it came to registering the trademark.

Macclesfield-based Mojo Mortgages launched as Nuvo at the end of last year while finding a solution with Countrywide – which ended up calling its broker Dynamo after having an offer to purchase the trademark rebuffed.

Richard Hayes, Mojo’s chief executive and co-founder, said: “We liked the name Nuvo, but it never quite felt right for us.

“Mojo Mortgages is a better reflection of our confidence and the way we want our customers to feel when we help them find and apply for a great mortgage deal.”

Mojo Mortgages has a team of 46, helping more than 20,000 find a mortgage each month.

The broker has launched a platform where customers can upload proof of ID to support their mortgage application direct from their mobile phone, rather than having to scan or post documents.

Jenny Watts, chief operating officer at Dynamo, said: "Pre-launch we intended to call ourselves Mojo Mortgages.

“At the end of last year, it became clear that there was an issue with the trademark for Mojo as it was already owned by another organisation.

“We rebranded as Dynamo and launched to consumers in April this year."
