Paul joins the group with a wealth of experience in the mortgage market. Most recently he was country manager UK and Northern Europe (mortgage insurance) for Chartis Insurance, working with mortgage lenders to help them mitigate risk. Prior to this, he was head of new lending for Mortgage Trust.

Paul will be responsible for underwriting mortgages generated via the Paragon Mortgages’ brand. Paragon has an excellent reputation for careful and prudent underwriting and, at 0.86%, an arrears rate that outperforms both peers in the buy-to-let and wider mortgage market.

Paul said: “The strong performance of Paragon’s existing loan book highlights the group’s underwriting pedigree and I am looking forward to helping the group continue its strategy of prudent and risk-averse lending. We are targeting high quality buy-to-let propositions.”

John Heron, Paragon Group director of mortgages, added: “I’m delighted to be able to welcome Paul to the group. He is well known in the UK mortgage market and joins us with a strong background in mortgage underwriting and origination. He will be a real asset as we move forward.”
