Stroud & Swindon Building Society appoints chief executive
David graduated in Management Sciences at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST) in 1978 and then joined Ernst and Whinney, qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 1982.
After a brief stint in industry, he joined Coventry Building Society and held various posts over a 10 year period. Following a brief spell in insurance with Royal London, David joined the Stroud & Swindon as Finance Director in June 2000. In this role David has been responsible for Finance, Treasury, IT and Internal Audit.
David commented: “I am very proud to have been appointed the next Chief Executive of the Stroud & Swindon Building Society. In all, I have worked in the building society sector for over 15 years. During this time, a number of societies decided to convert to banks and we have seen several new entrants into an already very competitive savings and mortgage market. I am a passionate believer in the important role which building societies play in financial services and in the support of their local communities. Our prime concern is for our customers as opposed to plcs’ who have to look to their shareholders first and this reflects heavily in our products and standards of customer service.
Numerous studies have shown that building societies consistently provide better mortgage and savings products than the banks. In addition, you need only walk into a Stroud & Swindon branch, or contact our Head Office, to experience the warm response and superior service which typifies the approach of building societies in general.
However, it is important for us to remember that building societies don’t have an automatic right to exist. We must always strive to add that bit extra so that our customers keep coming back to us.
S&S is already one of the best performing societies. Our aim is to go on offering good value products thorough our branch network, our Direct call centre and via the internet. I am confident that we will continue to offer excellent value and service to our members and in so doing be assured of a strong and successful future.”
David is married with two grown up sons and lives in Warwickshire. He has a particular interest in sport and having lived in the City for several years, is an ardent fan of Manchester United. He is also a keen follower of Leicester Tigers Rugby Club.
